WHAT IS THE WORLD'S OBSESSION WITH BEYONCE?

PhotobucketPhotobucketWhat is the World's Obsession with Beyonce?
Few black female entertainers provoke such fascination. But Beyonce Knowles appears to have the world spellbound. Why? Here are a few theories...

There is not a magazine page or television channel that does not feature some aspect of R&B superstar Beyonce Knowles. From the time she could hold a microphone, Beyonce has been in the spotlight---beginning with her stint on Star Search with girl group, Destiny's Child...all the way to her current solo diva status. But in addition to the worldwide coverage she receives for her vocal talent and stage presence, there seems to be a certain fascination---an obsession if you will, with the lovely Ms. Knowles. This obsession goes beyond a passing appreciation for "just another R&B artist." This fixation appears to be deeply ingrained in the grey matter of people across the globe. Blogs and tabloids are constantly ablaze with the singer's name and image. But many people (even those who are fans) are wondering---why? Here are some theories...

Reason #1 : She's Loaded

Let's face it. The major reason why "everyday people" are fascinated with most celebrities is because their bank accounts are literally bulging at the seams. Famous people in general are known for swapping million dollar properties as if they were baseball trading cards. Beyonce Knowles, one of the youngest, richest black women in the entertainment industry rouses the curiosity of many, especially those within the black community. Quite frankly, it's exciting enough to witness the extravagant lifestyles of any celebrity. But for many young African American people, Beyonce Knowles is their very own Paris Hilton (except that Beyonce is actually famous for doing something.)

Reason #2 : Her Looks

Standing at a stately 5'7" tall, with creamy café-au-lait skin and piercing brown eyes, Beyonce Knowles has become a sex symbol of the new millenium. There are very few black female entertainers who are widely embraced by so many groups of society. But it is clear to see, from the hundreds of magazine covers she has graced, that the world perceives this R&B singer as the ultimate beauty.

Traditionally, black singers and actresses are categorized by their physical appeal first, and their talents second. In Knowles' case, both positive traits were brought to the forefront together. To the world it seems that the more popular she becomes as an entertainer, the more beautiful she appears. In fact, as many times as she appears in public, one can count on one hand how often she has ever been seen looking less than stellar. Even her natural candid shots are refreshingly attractive. This in and of itself both fascinates (and irritates) the rest of the world.

Reason #3: Destiny's Child

You cannot have a conversation for longer than 30 minutes without mentioning her start as the "lead" singer of teen R&B group Destiny's Child. For years, fans of this lovely quartet speculated about the rumored rifts amongst the singers. More specifically, people were drawn to the notion that the "most" attractive member of the group (Beyonce) was a tyrannical diva who only sought out to procure fame for herself. Fans watched the changes occur in the group with members dropping in and out like benched basketball players. Ironically, out of all the controversy Beyonce came out of things smelling like a rose.

Reason #4 : Jay-Z

Where there is a "Bee" (Knowles' nickname) there is a "Jay"---Jay-Z, that is. The megastar's infamous five-year romance with rap mogul Jay-Z, also known as Sean Carter, has had tongues wagging since they first stepped out on the scene in 2002. Unfortunately, the press is not always kind to the couple; blogs and tabloids sometimes refer to the pair as "Beauty & the Beast." But that, in and of itself is one major reason why the fascination with Beyonce continues. People see her in all her glamour, and wonder what she sees in Jay-Z. Furthermore, their fairly long romance (especially by Hollywood standards) also contributes to the fascination. When couples stay together as long as "Bee" and "Jay" without getting married or having children, it confuses the public---and they begin to invent rumors. Only the two of them will ever really be privy to their private connection. And this seems only to fuel the ongoing fascination.

Reason #5: She's "Boring"

To say that Beyonce Knowles is boring is not necessarily an insult. To be frank, for many people (especially the parents of her fans), it is a relief not to see Ms. Knowles getting out of cars without underwear, or hanging over toilets in a drugged and/or drunken stupor. Her relatively normal lifestyle outside of being a performer enthralls people who believe that celebrities must always be viewed under wild circumstances.

A southern girl at heart, Beyonce is soft-spoken and seems kind to most everyone who interviews or speaks to her. She is not regarded as the most intelligent of African American entertainers; but the world does not really view her as stupid either. Moreover, her humble demeanor and classy good looks only add fuel to her huge flames of celebrity Diva-dom.

IS RIHANNA BROKE???

UPDATE....

A RUMOR MAKING THE ROUNDS VIA INTERNET :-)

FROM RHYMES WITH SNITCH & NECOLE BITCHIE... LINKS AVAILABLE:

Rihanna's now ex-business manager Patricia Willliams has been recently fired as she says "for no good reason, all in ignorance" and is "livid" with Rihanna & her management company Rebel One's decision to fire her. Rihanna recently met with Willliams to check on her accounting affairs and was shocked to see that almost all her money was missing. She instantly accused Willliams of "stealing her money.""I'm a professional Business Manager, I have a staff of more than a dozen, I have worked for many high profile actors, musicians and multi-million dollar corporations. Why would I steal from Rihanna?" She continues, "I showed her all the paperwork and tried to explain to her the circumstances but she wouldn't listen. She called me all sorts of horrible names and stormed off. I now feel compelled to share with the world the background story as I will not allow my name to be slandered"The Barbados born singer has had four back-to-back albums, including a re-release since her debut of "Pon De Replay" in 2005.According to Willliams, Marc Jordan, manager and owner of Rebel One Management has been taking care of Rihanna's financial situation with her. "Def Jam doesn't fund Rihanna properly, so Marc uses the money Rihanna makes from third-party endorsements and from tours to fund her album and music videos." Since 2005, Rihanna has been sponsored by the likes of JC Penny, Samsung, Covergirl, Secret, Venus Breeze etc,. and has gone on two major tours, most recently label-mate Kanye West's "Glow in the Dark" Tour and with Pussy Cat Dolls across Europe."I don't want to disrespect Marc's name. He is a fantastic manager and genuinely believes in Rihanna. But he uses her money to fund her future projects because he believes he can break her in the world-market. Her album sales are not nearly as close to her single sales and he knows that if she is only known as a 'singles artist' she will only be as good as her last hit. Unfortunately, he didn't inform his client and I'm receiving the brunt of it."Why is Def Jam lacking in funding support for there act? Why was so much money spent? How much exactly? Williams continues,"Her record label Def Jam has put out 3 albums in a time span of 2 years. Alot of that was orchestrated through her management Rebel One. It was never Def Jam's intention to release so many albums back-to-back but Marc Jordan found loop holes and ways to make it happen.A lot of the money Rihanna made through her endorsements between CoverGirl Cosmetics, Samsung.. Notice that majority of Rihanna's videos have a cell phone in it?""After the release of Rihanna and Teairra Mari, Def Jam had intention to drop both acts because their album sales were not successful. Her manager fought to get [S.O.S (Rescue Me)] and quickly tried to negotiate with as many companies as possible. Nike picked up the song and funded a video. This brought the hype back for Rihanna in the company's New York office. Majority of the official 'S.O.S' video was funded by Samsung because the record label was only willing to put up a small amount. Once 'S.O.S' picked up digitally and at radio, Def Jam agreed to fund the rest of her album. Jordan instantly got a video shot to 'Unfaithful' (he negotiated with video director Anthony Mandler to drop his price and would be given more videos from Rihanna in return). Then they shot 'We Ride' which was an extremely cheap video to create. 'Break It Off' was released as a third album, but again, Def Jam was unhappy with the sales of her album "A Girl Like Me" and refused to shoot a video. At this point Rihanna was opening up for the Pussy Cat Doll's in Europe. She was making 30,000 a show but she didn't see any of that money because it was needed to fund her next album." Which is now known to the greater public as a 'Good Girl Gone Bad'."The song "Umbrella" was found & Jordan fought again for Rihanna to have it. They shot the video, which CoverGirl funded half of, and the song became a success. When the record label had there meeting with Music Stores across the U.S to order her album for shipment, the number's weren't coming in the way that they expected. When the album's first week numbers came in at less than 150,000, the label was shocked. Def Jam's President LA Reid was livid! Umbrella was #1 for 11 weeks! Any other artist would have sold way more first week. T-Pain even did better in sales than her that week. Def Jam told Jordan they were no longer funding the album, so Jordan needed money again to pay for music videos 'Shut Up & Drive' and 'Dont Stop The Music'. Almost 250,000 was spent to have those videos created. Plus, an additional 120,000 to shoot 'Hate That I Love You'. Jordan was noticing that 'Dont Stop The Music' was picking up, so her persuaded the label to support it at radio in the U.S and the remaining singles, and they did.""Then came for the repackaging of her album 'Good Girl Gone Bad', which is called 'Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded', that entire project was funded through Rihanna's money. 'Take A Bow' was bought through her money, the video was created with her money and so is her most recent video and single 'Disturbia'. The label didn't even want to pay a dime for anything! Close to 750,000 was spent on those two songs alone. And now she expects to see money in her account?"Williams states that Jordan, her publicist from well-respected public relations firm 42-West, Alicia Silverman has built alot of hype around Rihanna's name but the singer has only made "a little bit above a million" and "all of it was spent on making her as big as she is now. It's not my fault that she only has 20,000 to her name."

THE AURA OF A PIN UP

Beyoncé's Winning Image

By Robin Givhan

In choosing Beyoncé Knowles to represent his new fragrance, Emporio Armani Diamonds, designer Giorgio Armani embraced an entertainer who has capitalized on the art of being an all-American pinup.

The majority of modern female pop stars who rely on sex appeal to build their careers -- as well as whatever talent might be at their disposal -- tend to focus on either a Lolita-esque licentiousness or an attitude of carefully modulated raunch. But Beyoncé has mostly followed a different path. She combines her formidable talent with a feline sex appeal that is reminiscent of old-fashioned pinups such as Raquel Welch, Ann-Margret and Farrah Fawcett, but updated for a contemporary audience.

During her Destiny's Child period, Beyoncé and her co-stars were as neatly groomed and tightly coordinated as a Motown girl group. Once she began her solo career, she memorably performed on "Today" wearing a dress that would have been at home at a garden party and that prompted host Katie Couric to remark on how wholesome the singer seemed. Now 25, she has gone on to favor form-fitting dresses, ball gowns and mini-dresses, most of which are no more provocative than what one might see on a Miss America stage. And when she has worn a dress with a dramatically low-cut neckline, she never appears to be in danger of falling out of it. At her most spangled, Beyoncé projects showgirl style. And what is a showgirl but the hardest-working version of a pinup?

There have been moments when Beyoncé's videos and her dancing have been beyond erotic. But she has avoided any meltdowns, scandalous behavior or tawdry fashion moments -- or at least none have been caught by the cameras. She has not married willy-nilly, shaved her head or been hauled off to rehab to be treated for "exhaustion."

To a great degree, Beyoncé has kept the most enticing details of her personal life to herself. A pinup should not encourage familiarity, just exude glossy perfection. And the only people who radiate perfection are those about whom little is known.

Her wholesome side surfaced on the "Today" show in 2003.

Beyoncé is unique in that she is among the rare black women who have been able to pull off this trick across racial lines and one of the few pop stars who have been able to sustain it. It looked as if she might be losing her polished sheen when she made the hyperkinetic dance video for "Deja Vu" in which her face got awfully close to Jay-Z's crotch. Her fans took such offense that they launched an online petition to have the video reshot. And then along came "Dreamgirls" and Beyoncé's skillful, hollow perfection was all over the big screen.

The model Tyra Banks has managed an accomplishment similar to Beyoncé's. She traded in the high-fashion world -- with its intimations of drug use, mind games and catty behavior -- for a polka-dot bikini on the cover of Sports Illustrated and a pair of angel wings in Victoria's Secret commercials. She honed her image as the sweet-faced model with the Barbie doll figure.

But once she became a TV mogul, Banks began chipping away at that persona, transforming herself into tough-love Tyra on "America's Next Top Model," and tell-all Tyra on her talk show. Pinups do not get mammograms on TV to prove to the audience that their breasts are real. A pinup would coyly keep her fan club guessing.

Armani has worked with Beyoncé before, notably last year when she performed during the presentation of his Emporio collection in London. Emporio Armani, which is a younger, more trend-driven collection than the designer's signature brand, has a long history of working with musicians, from the Fugees to John Legend. Beyoncé also has a history of fronting fragrances. In 2004 she helped launch True Star, a Tommy Hilfiger scent, and a year later promoted True Star Gold. (Emporio Armani Diamonds is expected to be in stores in September.)

Hilfiger's brand exploits multicultural Americana, as well as its close relationship with popular music. Armani sells a philosophy of glamour and elegant good taste.

Beyoncé is the rare pop star who fits into both categories. She's the sexpot a boy could bring home to Mama.
