Beyonce Donates Movie Salary To Drug Treatment Centers By Danielle Harling

Only weeks after the release of Cadillac Records, actress/singer Beyonce Knowles has decided to donate her entire salary from the movie Cadillac Records to drug treatment centers across the country.

Beyonce donates Cadillac Records movie salary to drug treatment centers throughout the country. Beyonce’s salary, an undisclosed amount, was donated to Phoenix House an organization that has provided treatment and recovery options to men, women, and teens for over forty years. Phoenix House operates in nine states including Texas, California, Florida, and New York.

Several reports have stated that the amount donated was $4 million, but Phoenix House has shared with BET.com that that was not the amount donated although they did confirm that Beyonce did donate her entire salary.

According to Phoenix House’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Karen Sodomick Beyonce has been “amazingly generous” to the organization and the Houston native is even working with the organization to start a cosmetology program.

Aside from the donation by Beyonce, Phoenix House has also benefited from the premieres of Cadillac Records.

Starring Cedric The Entertainer, Adrien Brody, Mos Def and more, Cadillac Records details the rise of Chicago based record company Chess Records and its executive Leonard Chess.

In the film, Beyonce plays singer Etta James who was well known for her voice and the heroin addiction that ultimately ended her career.

Before filming began for Cadillac Records, Beyonce visited the Brooklyn branch of Phoenix House to speak with recovering addicts.

“It was hard to go there,” Beyonce told The Los Angeles Times. “In the beginning, I didn’t want to offend anyone, I didn’t want to ask the wrong questions or seem judgmental. They were so honest, tough, and I am so thankful. I don’t think I could’ve understood the level of pain or need. What they do there is amazing.”

Cadillac Records was released in theatres on December 5.

It opened today!

BEYONCE will be in Brooklyn this Friday to cut the ribbon on a very special project -- the Beyonce Cosmetology Center at Phoenix House, a rehab center. Phoenix House runs something called the Career Academy, which is a residential substance abuse treatment program that offers vocational training programs. Beyonce's new venture will allow men and women in treatment to prepare for careers in the cosmetology field after a seven-month training course.
